Sabarimala Temple
At a distance of 250km or 5 1/2 hour by Road and an altitude of 1565 feet the Sabarimala is the largest pilgrimage center in Kerala after guruvayoor. The rule is that only men who observe fast for 41 days can visit the temple. Women between the ages of 10 to 50 are not allowed to enter the temple. The temple open only during the days of mandalapooja (15th Nov to 26th Dec) at the time of MakaraSankranti, and the first six days of all Malyalam months.
Sree Padmanabha Swami Temple
In state capital Thiruvananthapuram it’s one of the greatest temples in Kerala and having very close relation with the erstwhile Travancore Kingdom. Here main deity is lord Vishnu as Padmanabha Swami. The idol is in the form of Ananthasayanam (Lord Vishnu sleeping on the celestial snake Anantha floating in the ocean of milk). A huge treasure of billions of rupees worth of gold recently discovered in the secret Subterraneanvaults. Visiting time Morning 3.30am to 12.00 noon, Evening 05.00 pm to 07.20 pm
Attukal Bhagavathy Temple
In ThiruvanathapuramTheAttukalBhagavathy Temple is at a distance of 2km from the padmanabhaswami Temple. The main deity is Devi Parvathy.AttukalPongala is famous festival here which attract more than a million women devotees. Visiting Time: Morning 04.30 to 12.00 noon and Evening 06.45am to 08.30pm .
Ambalapuzha Srikrishna Temple
Famous for the Palpayasam (a sweet pudding made with milk and rice) the temple is in Ambalapuzha, Alapuzha district of Kerala. From Guruvayoor the distance is about 160 km. The main deity is Lord Sree Krishna.
